I was up early this morning and watched FoxFive News report. They aired a piece regarding a parody of the "We Are the World" created by a bunch of anonymous asswipes (and you wonder why). The lyrics are extremely offensive and even racial (that's not why I'm pissed, believe it or not), but to attack the victims and mock their despondent situation is no laughing matter.
The problem with it? It was aired frequently on Hot 97 and the host, Miss Jones, opined that it was humorous. Hot 97 has made a very weak apology after a band of raging councilmembers stormed to City Hall demanding that the offensive material be taken off air. Furthermore, the local representatives publicly apologized that the city does not promote racism nor do they condone Hot 97's actions as too many members living in this city are still mourning over loved ones in Asia from the devastation.
You would think that after 9/11, there would be heightened sensitivity towards matters of doom and gloom, especially in this city.

Read something very interesting lately to the effect that 95% of the complaints lodged with the FCC last year were from the same 2000 members of an ultra right wing Christian group. As they formed the statistical majority, their opinion became statute.
Would much rather see complaints being made against the sort of thing you mentioned, and from more than the same 2,000 people.
